Oliver Glasner would replace Ruben Amorim ‘in a heartbeat’ if offered Manchester United job

Ruben Amorim’s future at Manchester United has become a centre of speculation following the club’s disastrous start to the season.

Many believe the 40-year-old’s days are numbered, with the club languishing in 14th after collecting just seven points from six Premier League matches.

Several names have been linked with United, including current Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner.

According to reputed journalist Ben Jacobs, Glasner would join United ‘in a heartbreak’ should they come calling at any point in the near future.

‘My information is that if Oliver Glasner was offered the Manchester United job, he would take it in a heartbeat,’ Jacobs said.

‘As a consequence, Manchester United will feel there are quality managers, and some with Premier League experience, that will be willing to move. There are options closer to home.

‘I don’t think Glasner playing a similar system to Ruben Amorim will really put off Manchester United.’

Glasner has done an exceptional job at Palace since taking over from Roy Hodgson in February 2024.

The South Londoners were struggling for form at the time of his appointment, but the Austrian boss made an immediate impact, leading them to a 10th-place Premier League finish after six wins from their final seven games.

Glasner guided the club to their first major trophy last season, winning the FA Cup after beating Manchester City in the final.

Palace thus qualified for the Europa League, but suffered demotion to the Conference League after being punished by Uefa for breaching multi-club ownership rules.

The Eagles have made an excellent start to the new season under Glasner, as they are currently in the midst of an 18-game unbeaten run.

Given his work at Palace, the Austrian would be an excellent choice for United.

He could be tempted to join the Red Devils, who are one of the three biggest clubs in the world and where he will have enormous resources at his disposal.
