Named in Borussia Dortmund’s starting XI to play the first Revierderby of the season against Schalke, Jude Bellingham (19) will make his 100th appearance for the Schwarzgelben across all competitions.
Bellingham joined BVB as a 17-year-old in July 2020 for a reported €25m. Now an England international, the box-to-box midfielder has represented Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
Speaking to The Guardian, BVB teammate Marco Reus praised the development of Bellingham: “From day one, he has not shied away from taking responsibility in midfield. He never seemed to be intimidated by playing against 25-year-olds or really experienced players.
I must admit I didn’t know too much about him when he came. But my first impression was that, while he was not yet a complete player, he already had something to his game in all aspects of his position that I had never seen before for a player of his age,” said Reus.
“At 19, he’s taking steps towards reaching his full potential, which will make him one of the best players in the game in two or three years’ time.”
Bellingham has a Borussia Dortmund contract until 2025 but expect several European clubs to chase the signing of the talented English midfielder in 2023.
