Boxing fans ridiculed the absurd height difference evident from Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul’s first face-off on Monday, ahead of their boxing exhibition on Netflix on the 14th of November in Miami.
Event organizer Nakisa Bidarian, who co-founded Most Valuable Promotions alongside Paul, confirmed the event will take place over 10 x 3-minute rounds with 12-ounce gloves, with a maximum weight of 195 pounds. This is significantly lower than the 227 pounds he weighed before he fought Mike Tyson on Netflix last year, and also lower than the 199.5 pounds he weighed ahead of his 10-round fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June.
Considering Davis typically weighs in at 135 pounds, there could be a 60-pound difference between them. However, that is not the only glaring contrast between the fighters, as their face-off this week showed.
Boxing Fans Blast Jake Paul & Gervonta Davis Height Difference
Davis and Paul went head-to-head for the first time Monday in New York City as part of a two-city press tour designed to increase awareness of their mid-November event. They both addressed the press, exchanged heated words, and then stood in front of one another for the cameras.
And, one thing became clear — just how much taller Paul, at 6-foot-1 is, than his opponent, Davis, who is 5-foot-5, at most.
Watch the fighters face-off right here:
“Jake got 50 to 60 pounds on him,” said one boxing fan. “How’s this even fair?”
“This is the dumbest thing to ever happen,” another said.
“Come on, man,” a third fan added. “Look at the size difference.”
The bout between Paul and Davis is a co-promoted event involving Most Valuable Promotions, which is Jake’s firm, and TGB Promotions, which typically promotes Premier Boxing Champions events, including those involving Tank. An undercard is yet to be announced but would likely pull from both MVP and PBC’s respective rosters. The event takes place at the 19,600-capacity Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida — home of NBA franchise Miami Heat.
