Stefano Pioli on talk of discontent at Fiorentina: “Why should I answer such an unfounded question?”

There has been talk of some discontent at Fiorentina this past week after a poor start to the season in Serie A for La Viola.

The Florence club are 16th in the table, having picked up only two points from three games. They lost to Napoli and were held to draws by Torino and Cagliari in the first two days of the campaign.

With Pioli under a bit of pressure, he was asked by reporters ahead of the game against Como about the talk of discontent at Fiorentina.

The Italian responded firmly, via TMW: “Why should I answer such an unfounded question? I said the team is working as best as possible; if there were any issues like that, I wouldn’t mention it. I won’t answer because it’s not a pertinent question.”

Speaking specifically about Como and how they play under Cesc Fabregas, Pioli said:

“Como has caused problems for every team they’ve faced. They’re a very well-coached team and have all the right solutions: they know how to pass the ball, they know how to create depth, they know how to play between the lines.”

“They’re a team that’s evolved thanks to the quality of their individuals, the quality of their coach, and the fact that they’ve been playing together for a long time. We’ll have to be alert, and when we have the ball, we’ll have to be more dangerous and more dominant. Como is rightly considered a strong team, given their investment and their quality. They’ve raised the level of their squad.”

When asked about whether he has any specific plans to stop Nico Paz, Pioli claimed:

“He has tremendous quality, it’s difficult to cage him. Sometimes he’s a striker, sometimes he’s in the middle of the midfield, sometimes he goes right and sometimes he goes left. The fewer balls he touches, the fewer dangers he creates. We’ll have to try to disturb his play and limit his supply. He has significant technical and physical qualities.”

A failure to win at the weekend can see Fiorentina go four games without a win, with Como having failed to win their last two games and were held to a 1-1 draw by Genoa in their previous outing.
