Willian José scored a brace against HJK Helsinki last week in Real Betis’ first round match of the Europa League group stage.
In his pre-match interview prior to Los Verdiblancos’ game against Ludogorets Razgrad that appeared on Marca, Willian José confirmed that he was very close to leaving the club:
“There came a time when yes, I was going to have to leave, but I spoke to the coach and he asked me to wait until the last moment because everything was going to be fine. And on the last day it worked out perfectly.”
The Brazilian striker also revealed that he feels highly valued at Real Betis:
“My teammates and the coach are very important. They talk to me every day in the dressing room and show how important I am to them. They count on me and are very happy with my work, and that is very important.”
Willian José is also happy with Manuel Pellegrini’s squad rotation system:
“We did this very well all season. We are all very happy, including myself, as well as Borja [Iglesias] Loren [Morón], who are training very well. We are ready for everything. The coach decides, but we have to do our job every day to be ready at all times.”
