Raja Jackson, the son of former light heavyweight champion and UFC legend Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, was arrested on Thursday morning after his attack at a wrestling event late last month.
The 25-year-old has been arrested on a felony battery charge following his outburst at the Knokx Pro Wrestling event in LA. Footage of the incident showed Jackson leaving his front row seat and entering the ring, before lifting wrestler Stuart Smith, who goes by the ring name Syko Stu, and slamming him into the mat. Jackson then proceeded to land a swathe of blows as the wrestler laid unconscious. Eventually, a group of wrestlers intervened and managed to pull the attacker from his victim.
Smith was taken to the hospital, where he regained consciousness, with his brother confirming that he had ‘some recollection of the events from the day of the attack.’ He remained in hospital for several days due to his numerous injuries, including a fractured maxilla bone, before being released to recover at home.
Footage covering the aftermath of the attack showed Raja explaining: “I’m tired of motherf****** playing with me bro. Real s***. I’m tired of everybody f****** playing with me and s***.
“At the end of the day, I’m going to stand up for my f****** self because I’m tired of everybody f****** playing with me. Real s***!”
Raja is currently being held at the LAPD precinct in Van Nuys on a bond of $50,000 as Los Angeles police investigate the matter.
Jackson’s father, former UFC light heavyweight ‘Rampage’ Jackson, broke his silence and condemned his son’s actions in a post on social media.
“Raja was unexpectedly hit in the side of the head by him moments before Smith’s match. Raja was told that he could get his “payback” in the ring. I thought it was a part of the show.”
The pair had an altercation prior to Smith’s match, as the wrestler ‘smashed’ a drink on Jackson’s head, with footage of the attacker saying: “I will f*** him up.”
‘Rampage’s’ apology via social media continued: “It was bad judgement, and a work that went wrong. Raja is an MMA fighter, not a pro wrestler and had no business involved in an event like this. I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL!”
“He suffered a concussion from sparring only days ago and had no business doing anything remotely close to physical contact. As a father, I’m deeply concerned with his health AND the well-being of Mr. Smith.
“That being said, I’m very upset that any of this happened, but my main concern now is that Mr. Smith will make a speedy recovery. I apologise on his behalf and to KICK for the situation.”
In the following weeks, ‘Rampage’ told Ariel Helwani that his son should “do a little time, do a little community service, and go to anger management class, get some therapy.”
