Chelsea manager Graham Potter would love to be reunited with Brighton star Moises Caicedo, believes journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The two worked with each other during Potter’s time at the Amex, and O’Rourke thinks the player has the qualities needed to be a top midfielder.
What is the latest news involving Caicedo?
Caicedo reportedly attracted interest from another big Premier League club in Manchester United during the summer transfer window.
According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils were the 20-year-old’s main suitors as Erik ten Hag looked to strengthen his midfield.
In the end, though, United signed Casemiro from Real Madrid instead, so Caicedo remained at the Amex.
It is a huge boost for Brighton, who had to watch two other key players, Yves Bissouma and Marc Cucurella, depart the club ahead of the new season.

What has O’Rourke said about Caicedo and Chelsea?
O’Rourke is convinced that Potter would not say no to a reunion with Caicedo at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “Chelsea are looking to freshen things up. Caicedo has proven that he has got the qualities to be a top midfield player, and I’m sure Graham Potter would love to be reunited with him.
“But Brighton, on the other hand, will be hoping to keep hold of the Ecuador International.”
Who could Caicedo replace at Chelsea?
If Chelsea sign Caicedo in January or next summer, then there is a good chance that he will replace either N’Golo Kante or Jorginho.
Both players will be free agents at the end of the season, with reports claiming that the former recently turned down a new contract offer from the club.
As per The Athletic, Kante has rejected Chelsea’s proposal of two years plus the option of a third, as the Frenchman wants a longer deal.
Given his injury record, though, it would be a surprise if the west London outfit gave in to his demands. Therefore, the likelihood is that Potter will need to sign a new midfielder at some point in 2023.
Again, the 47-year-old obviously knows Caicedo really well and rates him highly, so bringing him in would make a lot of sense.
“It doesn’t surprise me that people are looking at him because he is playing at a fantastic level,” Potter said (via MailOnline) at the end of August. “As soon as you do research on him you realise he is a top kid, great person, young, playing in the Premier League, has all the attributes to play at the very, very highest level.”
When you consider all of the above, it really would not be a shock if Caicedo was the next Brighton asset Chelsea tried to snatch.
