It was only last season that Vincent Labrune, president of the LFP (Ligue de Football Professionnel) cut his salary by 30%. As per a report from L’Équipe, his salary is set for another decrease, this time much more significant.
At the start of last season, Labrune was earning €100,000 per month. Following the TV rights deal with DAZN, which was secured on sub-optimal terms and abandoned after just one season, he saw his salary reduced to €70,000.
From 1st October, his salary will decrease further, this time to €23,000 per month. Labrune announced this during an administrative council held on Monday. He also announced that the current salary earned by the president should decrease closer to €0.
It comes amid financial difficulties in the French game, with a lack of broadcasting rights money, following the decision to launch a league-owned channel, Ligue 1 Plus. It also comes amid a revolution in the governance of French football, with the FFF to take more control, should the measure receive governmental approval. This would see the LFP play a more marginal role.
