Olympique Lyonnais delivered a hefty blow to arch-rivals Olympique de Marseille before the international break, scoring late in regulation time to win the Choc des Olympiques. It’s been a flawless start so far, Les Gones, who have won all three of their matches without conceding a goal.
There was a new look to the side against Marseille, with the team adjusting to the loss of star striker Georges Mikautadze, who was sold to Villarreal. On paper, Corentin Tolisso played as the number nine, although in practice, the formation looked strikerless, with the captain tucking in alongside new academy graduate Khalis Merah.
Paulo Fonseca will likely make no changes to the team sheet for this evening’s clash with Stade Rennais. Mikautadze’s deadline day replacement, Martin Satriano (arriving from RC Lens on a season-long loan), should start on the bench. Also, no change to the goalkeeping situation, with Rémy Descamps given the nod over summer signing Dominik Greif.
Lyon likely XI v Rennes
Rémy Descamps; Abner Vinícius, Moussa Niakhaté, Clinton Mata, Ainsley Maitland-Niles; Tyler Morton, Tanner Tessman; Malick Fofana, Khalis Merah, Adam Karabec; Corentin Tolisso. (L’Éq)
