WWE have announced that, for the first time ever, they will be holding WrestleMania outside of North America with the 43rd installment of the iconic event set to take place in Saudi Arabia. After beginning their partnership with Saudi Arabia in 2018, the wrestling promotion has held multiple events every year in the country and they will host the Royal Rumble in January 2026.
Now, they’re taking things to a whole new level and they’ve announced that the Showcase of the Immortals will take place in Saudi in 2027. The decision was announced on Friday via a public press conference and it’s safe to say that the announcement has left fans will plenty to say. In fact, they’ve wasted very little time letting their feelings on the matter be known.
WWE Fans Aren’t Happy With the Decision to Host WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia
Shortly after the news was revealed on Friday, WWE played a video of the announcement during their Worlds Collide collaboration show with Mexican promotion AAA. Footage of Triple H announcing the deal was played on a jumbotron in the Thomas & Mack center in Las Vegas and it was met with deafening boos from the crowd in attendance and even a large chant of ‘you sold out’.
The crowd could also be heard off camera singing the chant when an advertisement for WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia was played on screen.
Over the years, WrestleMania has become a global, week-long phenomenon for the cities that it takes place in. Fans from all over the world flock to the area and take part in conventions, meet and greets, the Hall of Fame ceremony and other wrestling shows ahead of the big show. That will almost certainly not be the case when the show is held in Riyadh. It’s far from the first wrestling show that WWE will put on in Saudi Arabia, but for fans, it seems WrestleMania being taken to the country is a step too far and they haven’t been afraid to let the company know exactly how they feel about the move.
Despite the negative reaction, Saudi Arabia are keen on making WrestleMania 43 in Riyadh the biggest event in WWE history and they’re reportedly interested in bringing four legends out of retirement to compete on the card.
