During the summer transfer window, Maximilian Beier was linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund.
Brentford FC were reportedly among the clubs interested, but the 22-year-old ultimately remained with the Bundesliga side.
In an interview with Eurosport, Beier has addressed the speculation surrounding his future.
“I heard that there were a few reports going around. I also had to listen to some jokes from my teammates,” Beier said with a smile.
Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac made it clear, both publicly and in a personal conversation, that he wanted Beier to stay – a factor that influenced the striker’s decision.
“I spoke with Niko Kovac, and he clearly told me that I should stay. In that conversation, I also made it clear that I have no thoughts of leaving and want to remain in Dortmund,” the attacker said.
“That the coach speaks about me like that and holds me in such high regard, of course, makes me happy.”
The German international joined Dortmund from Hoffenheim last year.
