Hansi Flick has chosen his team for the UEFA Nations League fixtures against Hungary and England. But, he’s allowed to select two more outfield players for Qatar as he said, “Everyone still has a chance to jump on the World Cup train.” Many see veterans Mats Hummels and Mario Götze as strong candidates to fill those final two spots.
After watching Dortmund’s match over Manchester City, Flick stated, “I particularly liked Mats Hummels.” The defender is in “good shape and very, very fit.”
On Götze: “He also really has every chance if he continues to show himself in such a way that he is still jumping on the World Cup train.”
Flick has selected goalkeepers Manuel Neuer, Marc-André ter Stegen and Kevin Trapp, but is still keeping an eye on both Bernd Leno and Oliver Baumann as potential last-minute options. Former Bochum defender Armel Bella Kotchap is set to be Flick’s surprise pick for the World Cup after his impressive start to the season at Southampton.
