Five months after sustaining a meniscus injury, Nico Schlotterbeck completed parts of team training on Wednesday as Borussia Dortmund prepare for their upcoming Bundesliga game against Heidenheim on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking in August, Schlotterbeck stated that he is aiming to return to action in October, with the defender’s rehabilitation on track. But, according to Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund believe that Schlotterbeck could return at the end of September providing there are no setbacks.
The 25-year-old’s absence, combined with Filippo Mane’s suspension and injuries to Niklas Süle – who isn’t expected to return to action until mid-October – and Emre Can means that summer signing Aarón Anselmino should start against Heidenheim in a back three alongside Waldemar Anton and Ramy Bensebaini.
After being a part of the Germany camp, Maximilian Beier, Anton, Karim Adeyemi, and Pascal Groß also returned to team training on Wednesday as Borussia Dortmund continue their preparations.
