When you think of contenders for Manchester United’s worst ever signing, a few names may spring to mind immediately. Sir Alex Ferguson, despite his brilliance, didn’t always get it right in the transfer market.
He made some poor signings during his tenure, including Kleberson, Bebe, Massimo Taibi and Juan Sebastian Veron.
Since his departure, United have splashed the cash in an attempt to restore themselves to former glories, but a lot of the money they have spent has gone to waste. In recent years, big money has been spent on the likes of Antony, Jadon Sancho, Paul Pogba and Andre Onana, but none of them have lived up to expectations.
Jadon Sancho Branded Man United’s Worst Ever Signing
Sancho has now been branded as Man United’s worst ever signing by a fan of the club and YouTuber, Adam McKola. The Englishman signed for United for £73m in 2021 but has flattered to deceive, scoring just 12 times and recording six assists in 83 matches for the club.
Appearing on The Overlap Fan Debate, which is hosted by Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes, McKola called him a ‘disgrace’ and ‘the biggest waste of space I’ve ever seen in a United shirt.’
Carragher responded by savaging the 25-year-old as he questioned how much ability he actually has. He said: “It’s funny with Jadon Sancho.
“Back when he was at Borussia Dortmund, Gary Neville and I were on a show where we had to pick an England squad. We hadn’t seen too much of him – he was doing well in the Champions League, but we left him out. Everyone on social media was saying, ‘How can you not pick Sancho?’
“I’m still not sure there’s that much ability there. He’s okay, but I don’t really see what his standout quality is. With Marcus Rashford, even though I’ve criticised him, I can picture his pace, his shooting, his free-kicks, the power he puts into the ball. With Sancho, I just don’t know what his thing is – I can’t picture it in my head.”
The fan said that Sancho has the ‘ability to dribble in tight spaces”, but Carragher wasn’t having any of it as he replied: “I’ve never seen it in my life. I haven’t.”
Paul Scholes Questions Aston Villa’s Decision to Sign Jadon Sancho
Sancho, who has been ranked among United’s 20 worst ever signings, joined Aston Villa on loan this summer, a move that Scholes has described as ‘weird’.
“Unai Emery might be good for him, but he is a weird signing. We talked about the size of pitch might be an issue for him, Villa Park is massive. A lack of pace, a lack of legs, it concerns you.
“He has got ability, but what is his strength? Does he cut inside and smash it in the top corner? Can he beat a man? He possibly links with a centre forward.
“[Turning back after beating defenders] is a pace issue. He probably has the skill to go past someone, but they catch him. He can’t go on again.”
Sancho could make his Villa debut on Saturday, September 13 when they travel to Merseyside to take on Everton. Should he feature, he will be looking to prove Carragher and Scholes wrong.
