According to a report from Marca, Ibrahima Konaté (26) has rejected a third contract offer from Liverpool in recent weeks, with his contract set to expire at the end of 2026. The Premier League champions are eager to avoid losing the France international defender on a free transfer at the end of his current contract.
However, the Merseyside outfit are becoming resigned to that fact, Marca understands. In a similar fashion to just a couple of months ago, when Trent Alexander-Arnold left his boyhood club to move to the Spanish capital, Liverpool are beginning to believe that Konaté is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Konaté to be joined by a Les Bleus teammate?
The Spanish publication have revealed that the 26-year-old centre-back is not the only Frenchman that Madrid are hoping to sign on a free transfer. Los Blancos are still hoping to sign Arsenal’s William Saliba on a free transfer. Nevertheless, the former Saint-Étienne defender’s contract at the Emirates isn’t set to expire until 2027.
