Following Benjamin Sesko’s summer arrival at Manchester United, Rasmus Hojlund’s role under Ruben Amorim was instantly depleted – and the once-promising 22-year-old chose to join Serie A champions Napoli on loan as a result and football fans are all making the same point following his latest display for the Danish national team.
Amorim and his entourage waved goodbye to the ex-Atalanta star, who they signed for £72 million instead of the Premier League-proven Harry Kane in the summer of 2023, this summer after he was left out of United’s matchday squads entirely for the start of the 2025/26 campaign, which has accrued four points in three matches.
Thrown into the deep end upon his arrival, Hojlund immediately took on the goalscoring responsibilities – alongside the club’s do-it-all talisman in captain Bruno Fernandes – and scored 26 goals in 95 appearances in a period that resulted in a 2024 FA Cup final win and a Europa League final, which they narrowly lost.
Hojlund’s Cameo in Demark 3-0 Greece Has Got Fans Talking
Deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, Copenhagen-born Hojlund will be looking to get his career back on track following his temporary move to Naples. At the time of writing, however, he is yet to make his debut for Antonio Conte’s side, who have fixtures against Fiorentina and Manchester City on the horizon.
Before that, however, Hojlund was back in action for Denmark against Greece. Monaco hotshot Mika Biereth started in the solitary centre-forward berth but was replaced by the Manchester United loanee in the 63rd minute. Keen from the off, the former Copenhagen academy star made the most of his limited minutes by bagging his nation’s third goal in a 3-0 victory.
Alert to a Patrick Dorgu shot that ricocheted off the post, Hojlund remained composed and slotted home into the back of the vacated goal and, in the wake of Denmark’s three points, which sees them top Group C, football fans are making the same point that Hojlund is ready to explode post-Old Trafford.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one wrote: “Bro left Manchester United and started scoring. Not surprised,” as another added: “Every player that leaves Man Utd ends up becoming a better player. That club is cursed.”
Whether it’s true or not, there is a common consensus that United have been able to nurture young talent properly over the years and, as a result, they burst into life upon their respective departures – ahem, Scott McTominay. “Once you leave Manchester United, your life becomes better,” another added as one supporter concluded:
“He left Manchester United and now he’s back to scoring goals.”

Danish outlet Tipsbladet were eager to praise the young striker. “Scored his second international goal this year when he sought out the opportunity and was in the right place at the right time. It is important for Riemer and Denmark to get him going.” Another Danish publication, DR, gave Hojlund a rating of 7/10, adding: “Great goal by Hojlund on a riposte from the post and lots of good work. Looks promising for the future once he gets going in Napoli.”
When Denmark boss Brian Riemer spoke about Hojlund’s decision ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Scotland, which ended in a goalless draw, and Greece, which they won 3-0, he praised the youngster for his ‘exciting’ move back to the Italian top flight, a league he became accustomed to between 2022 and 2023.
“It’s an exciting choice that Rasmus has made because he is returning to something that has worked for him. It was in Serie A that he had his big breakthrough, where he also scored a number of goals. I think Rasmus’ playing style fits Serie A really well.”
