Liverpool fans have jumped to the same conclusion after Alexander Isak made his first appearance of the season in Sweden’s 2-0 loss to Kosovo. The striker was at the centre of the biggest transfer saga of the summer, refusing to play for Newcastle at the start of the Premier League campaign before completing a British record transfer on deadline day.
While his attitude during this period may have come into question, what wasn’t doubted is that when in full flow, Isak is a truly world-class number nine. However, with a lack of minutes so far at risk of affecting him, the Reds faithful are all making the same point after seeing him in action for the first time since he became a Liverpool player.
Liverpool Fans React to Isak’s Sweden Performance
Given his lack of match sharpness so far this season, Isak was not included in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s starting XI. Instead, he was introduced in the 72nd minute with Kosovo already two goals to the good. In his short cameo, the striker managed a total of four shots, three of which were on target and one considered to be a big chance.
He was accurate with eight of his 10 passes while also winning his only duel and losing possession three times. And while this wasn’t enough to convince some of the neutrals watching, Liverpool fans were all quick to point out how impressive Isak looked considering he had yet to play a single game before his introduction off the bench.
“Good little cameo considering he’s not played for four months. Hasn’t fully sunk in how brilliant he’s going to be for Liverpool along with our overall strike force,” claimed one fan on X, while a second added: “So obvious he’s gonna be a hit. Unreal footballer.”
A third stated: “He is gonna ball out so hard, I can’t wait,” with a fourth sharing a similar sentiment by claiming that the forward was: “Looking very sharp for someone who hasn’t played in months.” Meanwhile, a fifth said: “First few minutes of the season. Played 25 mins. Lacking fitness but looked a bit sharp in certain situations. Notice the positions he’s picking the ball up in, too. Fluid across the channels and on the left.”
A sixth noted: “Alexander Isak’s touches, movement, and positioning are on another level. If this is just a return from months out, imagine how he’s going to dominate once fully match-fit,” with a final person posting: “Maybe he needs at least a week or max two weeks to be 100% match fit. He will be back to his best when he trains with the team. He has been training alone for over a month.”
Isak Speaks Out on Liverpool Move
Speaking post-match, Isak commented on the noise surrounding his move to Anfield, claiming that people ‘do not have the full picture’ of the circumstances surrounding the switch.
“Not everyone has the full picture, but that’s something for another day,” the striker told Swedish media.
“I can’t control everything that’s said or written. But I’m happy that I became a Liverpool player.
“It’s great that everything was settled before the camp and that I could focus on playing football again. It’s been a fairly new situation for me, but you always learn and develop mentally off the pitch as well.”
Isak will now be focused on returning to his new club as he hopes to hit the ground running when Liverpool resume Premier League action against Burnley at Turf Moor, before a Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid and a Merseyside derby at home to Everton.
