Diego Simeone’s main doubts for Sunday’s derby with Real Madrid are in defence. Atlético played without defensive pillars Jan Oblak, José María Giménez and Stefan Savic against Celta Vigo and Bayer Leverkusen.
The three players have not been ruled out for the derby as Simeone looks to have them as part of his squad for the club’s first derby of the new season.
Left-back Sergio Reguilón and midfielder Thomas Lemar are the other two casualties. Reguilón remains out and is recovering from a groin operation. He is expected to return after the international break.
Atlético lost 2-0 to Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night and will be hoping for a change in fortunes against Carlo Ancelotti’s undefeated Real Madrid side.
Los Blancos recorded a 2-0 home win over RB Leipzig on Wednesday in the club’s first European home game of the new season.
Kickoff at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday night gets underway at 9pm (CEST) local time.
