Bayern Munich are targeting a surprise move to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi at the end of the season, talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has revealed.
The Bundesliga winners are reportedly aiming to land the England international on a free transfer once his Selhurst Park contract expires and look set to rival Liverpool in the race to sign the ‘world-class’ centre-half.
Guehi saw a deadline day move to Anfield collapse, as Palace were unable to sign a replacement in time and called off his departure in a £35m deal at the very last minute.
The 25-year-old defender is said to have started undergoing a medical in London on Monday before the Eagles refused to sanction the move, following the collapse of their pursuit of ex-Brighton defender Igor, who ended up signing for West Ham.
Bayern Eyeing Move for Marc Guehi
Guehi will be available as a free agent next summer, having made it clear he will not sign a new deal with Palace amid interest from top Premier League clubs.
The Eagles skipper has been heavily linked with a Selhurst Park exit for the past three transfer windows, with Palace rejecting approaches from Newcastle and Tottenham.
The transfer window in January could finally provide a development over Guehi’s future, as he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs from the turn of the year.
Palace could also explore the last opportunity to cash in on the 25-year-old, as they risk losing him for free after the season, 18 months after rejecting a bid from Tottenham worth £70m.
Guehi has remained a key player for Palace this season amid his transfer saga, playing 90 minutes in all of the club’s six games across all competitions.
He helped Palace qualify for the Conference League and lift the Community Shield, months after winning the club’s first major trophy – the FA Cup – by beating Manchester City in the final.
If he were to join Bayern next summer, Guehi would follow his former Palace teammate Michael Olise to Munich, after his £50m move last year.
