Bayern Munich have confirmed that defender Lucas Hernández will be missing for several weeks due to an injury sustained in their 2-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League.
The club revealed that the Frenchman suffered a muscle tear in his left adductor and will be forced to rest for well over a month. Hernández started well during the game against Barcelona and opened the scoring for his side on the night.
With the World Cup just around the corner, this is a huge blow for Hernández and France who will be looking to win the country’s third world title.
In the meantime, it’s likely that head coach Julian Nagelsmann will be reliant on Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano, and Benjamin Pavard in the central defence.
There was good news for Bayern fans in regard to the injury status of both Benjamin Pavard and Dayot Upamecano, however. Pavard was forced off after just 21 minutes against Barca following a collision, while Upamecano took a knock to the knee and left the Allianz Arena in some discomfort. The two defenders will make a return to training in the coming days., a timely comeback considering the injury of Hernández.
