Celtic have made a last ditch approach to sign striker Kelechi Iheanacho to strengthen their squad, according to Sky Sports News reporter Anthony Joseph.
The Scottish champions have had a nightmare of a Deadline Day as they look to add a new striker to the squad, having allowed Adam Idah to leave permanently to join Swansea.
But the club have now gone for a long-term target in Nigeria international Iheanacho to solve their issues right before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm.
Celtic Move for Iheanacho
Iheanacho enjoyed the best season of his career under Rodgers during their time together at Leicester City, where they lifted the FA Cup.
But the 28-year-old has had a torrid time while playing for Sevilla, and after Celtic made their move to bring him in late, it has now been revealed that the player is a free agent after agreeing to mutually terminate his contract with the La Liga side.
According to Joseph, Celtic had been working ‘frantically’ to get a deal over the line before the 11pm deadline, but now that Iheanacho is a free agent they are able to take their time to bring him in.
Iheanacho had been targeted for a move to Glasgow during the January transfer window but ultimately opted to join Middlesbrough in the Championship instead.
However, a move to Celtic Park now looks like a likely option, and after seeing moves for Kasper Dolberg and David Datro Fofana both be hijacked on Deadline Day, this is good news for the Bhoys.
