Kicker reports that Austrian attacking midfielder Romano Schmid will remain with Werder Bremen despite interest from the Premier League. Schmid’s Bundesliga club is close to signing Spanish attacking talent Cameron Puertas on loan from Al Quadsiah FC. This doesn’t change Schmid’s desire to stay with the Hanseaten and take on more of a leadership role.
Among the players who started, scored, and went the full 90 minutes in Bremen’s sensational comeback draw with Bayer Leverkusen over the weekend, Schmid suggested he wished to stay in his post match comments. Like his Bremen teammate Felix Agu, Schmid doesn’t see his future on the Isle at this point in time.
“I think such things happen for a reason,” Schmid said when asked to comment on the inclusion of young up-and-coming talents such as Patrice Covic and Karim Coulibaly being included in the Bremen starting XI. “And perhaps that serves as my next challenge: maturing as a leader and working to guide and help the younger players.“
