Marseille have signed Belgium international midfielder Arthur Vermeeren (20) on loan from RB Leipzig, both clubs have announced. The 20-year-old will wear the No. 18 jersey for Roberto De Zerbi’s Phocéens. Marseille have agreed a loan deal with a buy option in place, with OM covering the full salary of Vermeeren.
Marseille were looking for midfield reinforcements to compensate for the potential departure of Adrien Rabiot (30) before the end of the window, after the Frenchman was involved in a dressing room brawl with Jonathan Rowe (22), who has moved on to Serie A club Bologna. Vermeeren may not be the only player to make the switch from the Red Bull Arena to the Vélodrome. Marseille have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Dutch international centre-back Lutsharel Geertruida.
