Lampard ‘over the moon’ about 6 foot star at Goodison Park

Everton manager Frank Lampard will be “over the moon” after managing to keep hold of Anthony Gordon, says journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 21-year-old was the subject of heavy interest from Chelsea during the summer transfer window but, in the end, the Merseyside club were able to retain his services.

What is the latest news involving Gordon?

According to a recent report from The Guardian, data analysts at Chelsea pushed for the west London outfit to sign Gordon when the market was still open.

The same outlet states, however, that former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel did not actually want the 6 ft winger.

Despite that, it has been suggested that Chelsea did put in a couple of bids for Gordon, including one worth £45m.

While Everton’s Premier League rivals were not able to land Gordon, they still managed to strengthen their attack with the additions of Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, so missing out on him was hardly catastrophic for them.

What has O’Rourke said about Lampard, Gordon and Everton?

O’Rourke says Lampard will be delighted that Gordon is still an Everton player.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “He’ll be over the moon they’ve kept Anthony Gordon. He worked really hard to keep hold of him. They turned down sizeable offers from Chelsea for Gordon, so that shows Everton’s determination not to let Gordon leave during the summer transfer window.

“And Gordon’s repaid that. So far this season, he’s probably been Everton’s best player. He’s got a few goals as well.”

Will Chelsea return for Gordon?

If Chelsea’s data analysts were the ones who put forward Gordon’s name and not Tuchel, then it seems like a possibility.

While it appears that Tuchel was not on the same page as Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly and his data analysts, it could be a different story with Graham Potter.

That being said, it is still hard to imagine the Blues paying the £60m price tag that was being mooted during the previous window.

Gordon has potential and, as O’Rourke has mentioned, has been able to make an impact for Lampard’s side this season. In six Premier League outings, the England U21 international has scored twice, meaning that he has already reached half of his tally from the last campaign.

So, yes, you can see the improvement, but whether that warrants a £60m transfer fee being paid in January is up for debate, to say the least.
