Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are two immortal figures in NBA history whose respective careers captivated millions of fans. It’s not surprising that both players are consistently featured in top 10 lists of the greatest basketball players of all time when looking at their resumes.
Jordan was the centerpiece of the
Chicago Bulls‘ dynasty throughout the 1990s, winning six championships in eight years and earning Finals MVP honors on all of those occasions.
Meanwhile, Bryant experienced considerable team success at a young age, winning three titles as the second-best player on the
L.A. Lakers.
After years of a lot of individual success on a thin roster, Kobe once again reached the pinnacle of the sport, winning two more championships with Los Angeles and two Finals MVPs during this run.

Both Hall of Famers were supernova offensive talents who were also among the best defensive players of their respective generations.
Bryant was always a keen learner, modeling his game after Jordan’s, while also building a close relationship with the five-time MVP. The two also shared a similar mental makeup, which led to some of the most clutch moments in NBA history.
While Kobe and Michael have long retired from the sport, their legacies continue to be shaped and intertwined on and off the court. And a stunning piece of news has just emerged about both of them.
A dual-autograph card featuring Jordan and Bryant just broke the record sale amount for a sports card. The amount that this card surpassed was staggering.
A Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant Dual-Autograph Card Sold For Record Amount
CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford describes the card itself as the “1 of 1 Kobe + Michael Jordan logo man from Upper Deck Exquisite”, which features the two NBA icons’ faces with autographs below them alongside a couple of NBA logos.
This piece was auctioned at the “Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction” and eventually purchased by an unknown buyer on August 24.
The card eventually sold for a record $12.9 million, surpassing the previous sports card high of $12.6 million for a mint condition 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle baseball card.
In Crawford’s article, he details a statement from Chris Ivy, Heritage’s director of sports auctions, on the record sale.
“The demand for this card is astronomical, which makes sense, because it has everything, including photos, jersey patches and signatures from two of the greatest players who ever stepped on the court. The Dual Logoman card offered in this auction is the only example created that includes only Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant – making it the most sought-after example of the incredible Upper Deck Logoman series, and because of Kobe Bryant’s tragic death in 2020, it always will be the only one.”
The Michael Jordan-Kobe Bryant Card Sale Is Indicative Of An Emerging NBA Trend
While the NBA is continuing to increase in value as a product, baseball cards generally dominate this space. For years, the most expensive cards came from America’s pastime, featuring legends of the distant past, such as Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, and Honus Wagner.
The T206 Honus Wagner baseball card, in particular, became a staple of this business due to its extremely rare nature. However, basketball has been catching up in the sports card industry.
In 2021, autographed cards of Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Luka Doncic were sold individually for $5.9 million, $5.2 million, and $4.6 million.
It’s therefore not surprising that the NBA has eventually surpassed baseball at the top, with star power being a vital component in the league’s growth. And it’s certainly not a shock who set this new record.
