Werder Bremen have bolstered their defense with the addition of Yukinari Sugawara from Southampton.
The Japanese right-back joins the Weserstadion side on a season-long loan, which includes an option to make the move permanent.
“We’re very pleased that Yukinari chose us,” said Werder’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer.
“He’s been in Europe for some time and brings experience from both the Premier League and the Eredivisie, where he made almost 200 appearances for AZ Alkmaar. We’re convinced he can help us straight away and are delighted to have him on board.”
Sugawara expressed his excitement about the move:
“I’m really happy to have joined Werder. It’s a big club, and I can’t wait to play at the stadium in front of the fans.”
