Arsenal has completed the signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace in a deal worth up to £67.5 million.
Eze moves to the Emirates Stadium on a long-term contract for an initial £60 million plus an additional £7.5 million in potential add-ons, which is equivalent to his recently expired release clause.
He will wear the No. 10 shirt previously worn by legendary figures such as Dennis Bergkamp, Mesut Ozil, and Robin van Persie.
The 27-year-old was also a target for Tottenham Hotspur and was on the verge of joining Spurs, with the club believing they had an agreement in place with both Palace and the player.
However, Arsenal reignited their interest and swiftly moved to secure the deal after Kai Havertz’s recent knee injury forced an urgent need for attacking reinforcements.
A lifelong Arsenal supporter, Eze began his youth career at the club before being released as a 13-year-old.
A return to North London represents a personal triumph for the England international and a chance to rewrite his narrative with the club he has supported since childhood.
Eze is a versatile attacker capable of playing across the midfield and forward lines.
He is Arsenal’s seventh addition in the summer transfer window, taking their total spending to £267 million so far.
After last week’s 1-0 win over Manchester United, the Gunners will seek to make it two wins from two in their clash against Leeds United later today before taking on defending champions Liverpool next weekend at Anfield, where Eze is expected to make his debut.
