VfL Bochum have sacked Thomas Reis after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against Schalke 04.

Thomas Reis has been relieved of his duties as VfL Bochum coach with immediate effect after a terrible start to the season that has seen the club lose their first six Bundesliga games.
Bottom-placed Bochum’s last two defeats came against newly-promoted Werder Bremen (0-2) and Schalke 04 (1-3).
“It should be clear to everyone that this decision is not easy for us,” said Bochum managing director for sport Patrick Fabian.
“Thomas Reis has a connection to the club and the city that goes beyond the successful past three years.”
U19 coach Heiko Butscher takes charge on an interim basis.
