Racing Club de Lens have signed Mali international midfielder Mamadou Sangaré (23) from Austrian giants Rapid Wien, both clubs have announced. Lens and Rapid Wien reached an agreement worth €8m. Sangaré’s deal includes €3m in performance-related add-ons. Sangaré has signed a five-year deal with Lens and will wear the No. 8 jersey for Pierre Sage’s Sang et Or.
Sangaré featured 44 times for Rapid Wien last season, logging three goals and as many assists. The 23-year-old midfielder notably reached the UEFA Conference League quarter-finals last season with Rapid Wien. Lens were in need of reinforcements for their midfield after parting ways with Neil El-Aynaoui, who joined AS Roma. Meanwhile, Andy Diouf could also be on his way out amid interest from Napoli. Lens lost their home Ligue 1 opener against Lyon. They face Le Havre on Matchday 2.
