RB Leipzig have announced that they have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Romulo from Turkish side Göztepe.
The 23-year-old joins Leipzig for a reported fee of €25m and signs a contract at the club until 2030. Romulo will wear the number 40 next season.
On joining Leipzig, Romulo said:
“The move to RB Leipzig is a big step in my career. The Bundesliga is one of the strongest and most exciting leagues in the world, and I want to prove myself here at the highest level. I know that Leipzig plays with high intensity, pace, and pressing – that’s exactly what I’m good at. I want to score goals, provide assists, and do everything I can to help us achieve our goals as a team. At the same time, I’m looking forward to getting to know the city and the fans and becoming part of the RBL family.”
Last season, the 23-year-old had a productive year with Göztepe. In a year they finished eighth in the league, Romulo scored a total of 17 goals and 10 assists in 33 games for the Izmir-based side.
Romulo will replace Benjamin Seško, who left Leipzig earlier this month for Manchester United in a deal worth €85m.
Whether the Brazilian will play alongside Xavi Simons is yet to be seen, but with the arrival of Romulo, Leipzig have become a far more interesting side this season.
