Tottenham Hotspur have re-entered the race to sign English international Eberechi Eze, reigniting competition with North London rivals Arsenal for the Crystal Palace playmaker.
This is according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Tottenham’s interest in Eze has intensified following James Maddison’s recent ACL injury.
Maddison is set to miss large chunks of the upcoming campaign, and with Dejan Kulusevski also sidelined, Spurs are in need of reinforcement in the number 10 role.
Eze, 27, has been a standout performer for Crystal Palace since joining them in 2020 from Queens Park Rangers.
He scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions last season, leading his side to FA Cup glory with the winning strike in May’s final against Manchester City.
While Arsenal have long been considered the front-runners for Eze, their pursuit has slowed down of late as the Gunners look to bring in some funds through player sales.
Eze previously had a £68 million release clause which has now expired, meaning that any parties still interested in landing him must negotiate with Palace.
While a move to Arsenal remains his priority, Eze is open to joining Tottenham with Champions League football on offer after their recent Europa League triumph.
Alongside Eze, Spurs are also targeting a move for Savinho and have opened talks with Man City, who are open to striking a deal for around €70 million.
For now, though, the immediate focus will be on Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain.
