Wrexham are stopping at nothing to make an impact in the Championship next season, with the Red Dragons eyeing up a former Manchester United star who has won multiple domestic honours in one of their most audacious efforts yet. Since the arrival of Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2021, the Welsh side have risen from non-league football to being one step away from the Premier League thanks to three incredible consecutive promotions.
The value of the actors’ fame and the Disney+ documentary on the club has enticed big names to drop down the football pyramid to turn out for them, with Ben Foster, Paul Mullin and James McClean being prime examples. However, their most recent attempted swoop could smash all those out the water as they look to add someone with Champions League experience to their ranks.

Wrexham Eye Former Red Devil
The player was released from Old Trafford this summer
According to the latest reports, Wrexham have identified Christian Eriksen as a potential target, and have made contact for the Danish star. Eriksen was released United this summer, having joined on a free transfer in 2022 following a resurgent run at Brentford.
The 33-year-old played 35 times for the Red Devils last season, often in a rotational role, contributing with 11 goal involvements. In total, he made 107 appearances for the Old Trafford outfit, and was earning £150,000-per-week.
Speaking on the reported interest, Eriksen’s agent, Martin Schoots appeared to play down the possibility of a move, telling the Daily Mail as per The Athletic:
“Wrexham are really upgrading everything both on and off the field, and it is a hugely impressive project, as you can see from the presence of people like Michael Williamson there.
“But Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition, and he absolutely wants to stay in western Europe. There are some contacts going on, but it has to suit both sides.”
Eriksen would bring with him a proven track record of competing and winning at the very highest level, with his trophy cabinet including a Serie A title, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
He landed in English football back in 2013 when he joined Tottenham from Ajax. He established himself as a creative genius and currently sits inside the top 20 for assists in the top flight. He would leave Spurs in 2020 for Inter Milan, though his stay in Italy would be cut short after he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 clash with Finland.
With rules in Serie A prohibiting him from competing with such a condition, he returned to England for an impressive six-month spell at Brentford before returning to bigger heights as one of Erik ten Hag’s first signings at Manchester United.
