Bild report that Fiorentina are interested in signing FC Köln midfielder Eric Martel (23). While the German youth international isn’t the Italian club’s top priority, he remains an option for Stefano Pioli’s side and with his future at the Billy Goats unclear, the defensive-midfielder could be available for between €8m and €10m.
As reported last week, Köln plan to offer Martel – who has 12 months remaining on his current deal – a ‘massive’ contract offer that will see the player earn a top salary. Thomas Kessler will hold a meeting with the player during their Austria training camp to discuss extend their cooperation beyond 2026 but if an agreement can’t be found, then it’s possible that Martel could leave the club as to avoid losing their prized asset on a free transfer.
Martel’s situation is similar to that of Tim Lemperle and Damion Downs. The former joined Hoffenheim on a free transfer after his contract at the Billy Goats expired, while they sold USMNT striker Downs to Southampton for €8m after failing to find an agreement on a contract extension.
