Daniel Dubois Given Controversial Advice Ahead of Oleksandr Usyk Rematch

Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois face off in one of the most highly anticipated rematches in boxing history on Saturday, the 19th of July.

Although the Ukrainian is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport, stylistically, due to Dubois’ explosiveness and power, the rematch remains a fascinating fight. Since their first fight in Poland almost two years ago, ‘Dynamite’ has shown huge improvements inside the squared circle and in his last three fights, he has secured KO victories over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua.

Dubois has the tools and ability to defeat any heavyweight alive, especially given the fact that his confidence right now is at an all-time high, however, Usyk is on the run of a lifetime and looking near-unbeatable on his path to becoming one of the greats of the sport.

The Ukrainian may be a tough puzzle to solve in the ring, but British boxing legend Carl Froch, during a recent sit-down with eScapistMagazine, may have given Dubois the perfect game plan to become the first man to defeat Usyk — but it’s one that would not be without controversy, if implemented.

Carl Froch Says Daniel Dubois Should Fight Dirty to Defeat Oleksandr Usyk

Froch believes Dubois needs to pressure and use dirty tactics on the Ukrainian early into the fight

Because Oleksandr Usyk is simply such a smart boxer, not fighter has yet put together a good enough game plan to defeat him in the pro game. British boxing legend Carl Froch, though, may have just given Daniel Dubois the perfect, albeit controversial game-plan to come out victorious at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday.

During a recent interview with eScapistMagazine, Froch said that Dubois’ best chance of defeating Usyk will be if he makes the fight dirty and adopts some tactics which will be looked down upon in the boxing world, but could guide him to victory.

“You can’t write Dubois off. He’s a big puncher. He should lean on him. Drop the nut in. Get in low on the blind side of the ref, dirty, whatever. Dubois’ tactics need to be put it on Usyk early.”

Froch also advised Dubois to come into the fight with the mindset that the bout is six rounds as opposed to 12, as those will be the Brit’s best rounds and if Usyk gets past that, the likelihood is he will pick Dubois apart.

Although Froch has given Dubois advice on how to defeat the Ukrainian, he is siding with Usyk to come out victorious yet again at Wembley, and believes he will get it done via late stoppage or on points. The British boxing legend also pinpointed Dubois’ tendency to get broken during his fights as to why he is picking against him.

“I say Usyk wins by late stoppage or points. He could force a stoppage late on because he’ll take his heart away. We’ve seen it before with Dubois, he falls apart. The way he took a knee against Usyk in that first one and then stood up when the ref got to nine. If that’s not quitting, I don’t know what it is.”
