Nantes centre-back Jean-Charles Castelletto is set to sign a three-year deal with Qatar Stars League side Al-Duhail, according to a report from L’Equipe. The race to sign the Cameroon international has been far from straightforward. Qatar’s Al-Wakrah were initially in pole position to land Castelletto with talks centring around a €3.5m transfer fee.
Then, United Arab Emirates club Al-Jazira outbid Al-Wakrah as Nantes agreed to a €4m transfer fee. According to Foot Mercato, Castelletto even underwent a medical with Al-Jazira. However, Al-Duhail reportedly matched Al-Jazira’s bid while offering the player better personal terms. Castelletto will link up with former Ligue 1 players, the likes of Marco Verratti and Benjamin Bourigeaud in Doha.
Casteletto spent three seasons at Brest before moving to FC Nantes on a free transfer in July 2020. He has made a total of 163 appearances across five seasons for Nantes but has seemingly fallen out of favour with manager Luís Castro.
