Newcastle United are looking to improve their defensive unit during the summer transfer window, and they have identified the Valencia youngster Cesar Tárrega as a potential target.
According to a report from Fichajes, the 21-year-old central defender is on a three-man shortlist, and it will be interesting to see if Newcastle can get the deal done.
The Valencia defender is highly rated across Europe, and he is likely to cost around £4.5 million. The player could prove to be a major bargain at that price. It will be interesting to see if Newcastle follow up on their interest with an official offer to get the deal done.
The other two players on their shortlist are Giorgio Salvini from Atalanta and Nicolo Savona from Juventus.
Newcastle need to improve defensively
Newcastle looked vulnerable at the back last season, and they need to improve in that area of the pitch.
They will be competing in the UEFA Champions League, and they will be up against top-class attackers. They need to tighten up at the back if they want to fight for trophies and finish in the top four once again.
Cesar Tarrega would be a future asset
Signing the 21-year-old Valencia defender would be a future investment for them. He has the attributes to succeed in the Premier League, and he could establish himself as a key player for the club. The reported asking price is quite reasonable, and the player could develop into a future star for Newcastle for a reasonable investment.
It will be interesting to see if Newcastle can improve their squad adequately before the summer window closes. Apart from improving the defensive unit, they need more depth in the midfield and attack.
Meanwhile, Tarrega will be tempted to move to the Premier League if the opportunity presents itself. It would be a major step up for him, and he would get to test himself at a high level.
