Sky Germany reports that RB Leipzig are interested in Brazilian midfielder Marlon Gomes of Shakhtar Donetsk.
Leipzig already have a verbal agreement with the 21-year-old as the Saxony side works on the transfer of Gomes in the background. The Brazilian’s contract in Ukraine expires in 2028.
Gomes played 34 times for Shakhtar last season, featuring in both Champions League games against Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
The reason for this is that the current midfield at the Red Bull Arena is crowded, and players will have to leave before a move can be completed. Currently, Leipzig has Arthur Vermeeren, Nicolas Seiwald, Xaver Schlager, Kevin Kampl, Amadou Haidara, Christoph Baumgartner, as well as summer signing Ezechiel Banzuzi.
Leipzig have been very busy in this summer window. So far, they have spent €92m on the signings of Yan Diomande (Leganes, €20m), Johan Bakayoko (PSV Eindhoven, €18m), Andrija Maksimovic (Red Star, €14m) and Max Finkgräfe (€4m, 1.FC Köln) on top of the pre-arranged signings of Banzuzi (OH Leuven, €16m) and Vermeeren (Atletico Madrid, €20m).
