In a recent print edition, Gazzetta dello Sport mentioned that Newcastle United are in the running for AS Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo. It is believed that the Magpies could face competition in the form of AC Milan and Juventus in pursuit of the Italian wide player.
Zaniolo’s Impressive Form At The Stadio Olimpico
Zaniolo has enjoyed a decent season in Italian football after performing at a high level on the right side of Roma’s midfield. The 22-year-old has found the back of the net on eight occasions and grabbed nine assists in 42 matches for the Italian outfit this season across multiple competitions.
The Massa-born talent has caught the eye by averaging 2.5 shots, 1.0 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per game in Serie A.
He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 76.9% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Newcastle United Bring Zaniolo To Tyneside?
Standing at 1.90m, Zaniolo can use his strength to keep hold of the ball and even win a few headers for his team. He is a hard-working attacker who can make some intelligent runs with the ball in the final third.
The Italy international can set up a few decent chances for his teammates and is also a decent goal-scorer in front of the opponent’s goal. He is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also fill in as an attacking midfielder if required.
A winger of Zaniolo’s skillset will be an exciting addition to Newcastle‘s squad. We can expect the Italian wide player to bring more goals and creativity to Eddie Howe‘s attack. He could even serve as an upgrade over Miguel Almiron who has struggled to find consistency with his performances at St. James’ Park over the past few months.
Thus, it is only logical for the Magpies to make an attempt to acquire the Italian’s services ahead of the new season. Zaniolo is good enough to become a real favourite amongst the Newcastle supporters and could help the Tyneside club challenge for some top honours in the not-too-distant future.
