Chris Eubank Jr Can’t Fight Conor Benn Again Until He Pays Off Huge Sum

Although Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn’s epic showdown earlier this year was one of the most dramatic boxing matches of 2025 so far, there has been a cloud of controversy over the fight — chiefly the amount of money Eubank Jr had been fined, despite Benn being the one who tested positive for a banned substance in prior years.

On Wednesday, the 9th of July, Eubank Jr was slapped with a third fine related to the Benn showdown in April, and this third and seemingly final fine has seen his total in fines rise to a shocking amount.

GIVEMESPORT now breaks down the given reason for each of these fines, and details how much in total he has had to surrender in cash to both Benn and the British Boxing Board of Control. If he fails to pay, there’ll be no Benn rematch, per reports.

Slapping Conor Benn With an Egg – £100,000

Eubank Jr performed the egg stunt at the very first press conference

Chris Eubank and Conor Benn face-off

The first of Chris Eubank Jr’s three fines was over an egg.

At the very first press conference to promote Eubank Jr and Benn’s showdown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as expected, both fighters exchanged heated words and insults and even their promoters, Eddie Hearn and Ben Shalom, added to the existing bad blood by going at it verbally themselves.

Although Eubank Jr and Benn managed to keep their cool during the press conference, it all came to blows when it was time to face off with each other. As they trash-talked face-to-face, Eubank Jr reached into his pocket, grabbed an egg, and slapped it off Benn’s face. Chaos ensued, and security had to do their best to hold Benn back while Eubank Jr backed away looking proud.

Eubank Jr was fined a whopping £100,000 ($125,000) by the British Boxing Board of Control due to being found to be in breach of regulation 25 in their rule book, which is misconduct.

Missing the Middleweight Limit By 0.05lbs – £375,000

For missing weight, Eubank Jr was obliged to pay £375,000 directly to Benn

Another of the fight’s controversies regarded the pre-agreed weight and rehydration regulations which affected the heavier fighter, Eubank Jr, more than Benn.

Throughout his career, Eubank Jr has operated in the middleweight division, but had been struggling to make 160 pounds and campaigned at super middleweight. A contractually-obligated rehydration clause meant neither man could exceed 170 pounds on the morning after the weigh-ins, which could’ve proved to be an issue for Eubank Jr, who would typically rehydrate to a far higher weight.

On Eubank Jr’s final attempt at making the middleweight limit, he missed weight by 0.05lbs, and as a result of missing weight, it triggered a fine in his contract, which meant he had to pay yet another whopping fine, this time £375,000 ($500,000) directly paid to Benn. Being fined £375,000 would’ve obviously hurt Eubank Jr, however, the biggest thing around the fight was the rehydration clause, and he stayed within the confines of that, avoiding a further £500,000 fine.

On Wednesday the 9th of July, Chris Eubank Jr was given his third and seemingly final fine in relation to his first fight against Conor Benn. The Brit’s first two fines totalled a whopping £475,000 ($635,000), and if that wasn’t enough for him, Eubank Jr will now have to pay an extra £10,000 on top of that due to his social media activity the day before the fight took place.

Prior to weighing in on the day before the fight, Eubank Jr posted several videos to Instagram where he appeared to be using a sauna to help him cut weight. The British Boxing Board of Control’s rule-book prohibits any fighter from using a sauna to cut weight, and with Eubank Jr having posted those videos to social media, which suggested that he used the sauna to lose weight, he was originally found to be in breach of their rules.

Although he was originally penalized for seemingly using a sauna, after putting evidence forward to the British Boxing Board of Control, the Board inquiry ruled that he was not guilty of using a sauna on the weigh-in day, however, due to the videos he posted, they considered him to be in breach of improper use of social media, bringing his total in fines for his first fight against Benn to an incredible £485,000 ($650,000).

With a rematch between Eubank Jr and Benn seemingly set for September later this year, it seems we could finally be past the sagas in relation to the first fight, and Eubank Jr will be able to move on and not worry about being fined even more money.
