Manchester United remain in active talks with Brentford to find an agreement for Bryan Mbeumo as an “absolute priority”, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils have been in talks for over a month with the west London club about a deal for the Cameroon forward, with two bids rejected for £55m and £62.5m including add-ons.
But while Ruben Amorim wanted the forward with the squad for the start of pre-season on Monday, that hasn’t happened and has left fans concerned that a deal could collapse over the fee being demanded.

Forward is ‘absolute priority’ at Old Trafford
However, speaking on his latest YouTube video on Tuesday lunchtime, Romano revealed that talks are ongoing between the clubs with Mbeumo still fully prioritising a move to Old Trafford this summer over anything else.
It’s believed that Brentford are demanding a fee in excess of the £62.5m United paid for Cunha, while they also want favourable payment terms as their star forward still has two years remaining on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium.
“I can guarantee to you again this week, Man United, fully focused on Bryan Mbeumo deal with Brentford, with conversations still underway, with Man United’s absolute focus being on Mbeumo, with a player still waiting for Manchester United as a top priority.
“So they keep advancing. They keep working on this deal for Mbeumo. There is still an agreement to reach with Brentford, but I’m told that the conversations are ongoing to try to reach this agreement and let the player travel and complete his move. So Man United keep working on Bryan Mbeumo as absolute priority.”
The 25-year-old, who has been described as ‘unplayable’, scored 20 Premier League goals in the 2024/25 season and has been viewed as an ideal addition to Amorim’s squad as one of the number tens.
Man Utd also want to sign a new striker this summer, while a central midfielder is also viewed as a priority for Amorim, but the club are currently looking to sell players who aren’t in their plans to raise funds.
