Everton ‘will hold discussions’ over deal for £26m star at Goodison Park

Everton will sit down with Anthony Gordon to discuss a new contract, believes journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 21-year-old winger was the subject of heavy interest from Chelsea during the summer transfer window but stayed at Goodison Park, and O’Rourke thinks his club will now consider offering him a fresh deal.

What is Gordon’s current contract situation?

Gordon’s contract still has a few years left to run on it, but it would not be a surprise if Everton did present him with a new one after Chelsea’s pursuit of the player.

The west London club had two bids rejected for Gordon towards the end of the last window, with The Guardian claiming that the second one was worth £45m – more than his £26m CIES Football Observatory value.

It is believed that the English youngster wanted to move to Stamford Bridge, but he has remained at Goodison Park and has not kicked up a fuss.

In fact, Gordon has made a fine start to the season, scoring two goals in his last three games for the club.

What has O’Rourke said about Gordon and Everton?

O’Rourke expects Everton to eventually opens talks with Gordon over a new deal.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “It’ll be interesting to see what happens now with Anthony Gordon. It looks like all the speculation hasn’t affected his performances on the field either, which is key for him and for Everton.

“I’m sure that they’ll sit down and have discussions to see where they go now and maybe offer him a long-term contract to try and ward off any potential interest in the next couple of transfer windows.”

It would be more than understandable if they did. He is clearly a player they value highly and one they want to keep amid interest.

As well as Chelsea, Tottenham were also thought to have been keen on signing Gordon in the transfer window just gone.

In fact, according to Sky Sports, the north London outfit wanted to do a double deal that would have seen the Everton youth product join Richarlison at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

They could revisit it in January, but there will now be doubts about whether Chelsea decide to pursue him again following the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel.

Their new manager Graham Potter may want to go in another direction, something which Frank Lampard and the Everton board would welcome.
