Two days after his Bundesliga club confirmed the sale, English attacker Jamie Gittens was officially unveiled as a new signing. There remains no new news to report with respect to the transfer fee. Dortmund have received their desired €65m in compensation for the player who represented them for five years.
Gittens departs Germany having made 106 BVB appearances across all competitions. He netted a total of 17 goals for Dortmund in the Bundesliga and Champions League. Twelve of those goals (eight in the league and four in the UCL) came last season.
In a Chelsea-released statement, Gittens declared himself proud to be returning to his native country. The 20-year-old has been capped 26 times at England U21 level and below. Naturally, moving to north London enhances his prospects of getting called up by Thomas Tuchel to senior level.
“It feels great,” Gittens is quoted as saying in the club statement. “It’s a great feeling to be joining such a big club as Chelsea. I can’t wait to learn from everyone in the team and give my best here. It’s an incredible feeling.”
