Arsenal are reportedly willing to pay as much as €90m for the potential transfer of Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes this summer.

The versatile Brazilian attacker is a top target for the Gunners, with some talks supposedly having already taken place since before the end of the season.

That’s according to a report from Spanish outlet AS, who state that Arsenal are ready to pay big, perhaps as high as €90m, to make Rodrygo their statement signing of the summer.

The outlet state that Mikel Arteta views Rodrygo as someone who can spearhead the project alongside Bukayo Saka.

AS also add that discussions may have to wait to go any further, as Rodrygo is only focusing on the Club World Cup for now, and is due to meet Xabi Alonso to discuss his future later in the summer.

Arsenal fans will be desperate to see an ambitious transfer window from their club after they failed to get enough done this time last year.

That ultimately led Arteta’s side to miss out on silverware once again, with the squad unprepared for the campaign as injuries took their toll.

Someone like Rodrygo looks just right to take Arsenal up a level, with the 24-year-old bringing skill, flair and a goal threat from out wide.

What could Rodrygo bring to Arsenal?

Rodrygo is best deployed on the left-hand side of a front three, but has also played on the right, and as a central striker.

If he were to join Arsenal, he would presumably be lined up for a role on the left, where Arteta could do with an upgrade on inconsistent performers like Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Arsenal have also been linked with Eberechi Eze by the Guardian, and he’s another player who could operate on the left, though he’d also be an option in central midfield, which is a role that would arguably suit him better, so there could perhaps be room for both to come in.
