Arsenal ‘Dream’ of Signing £250,000-a-Week Winger

Real Madrid winger Rodrygo is viewed as a “dream signing” for Arsenal amid their aim to sign a new wide attacker this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-year-old’s future is uncertain amid the arrival of Kylian Mbappe at Madrid last summer, joining an already stacked pool of attacking talent. This has harmed the Brazilian’s chances of an assured starting role at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Gunners could be an ideal destination given Mikel Arteta is keen on bolstering his attack by adding a new winger to his squad. The North London giants endured a frustrating past season on the injury front and the absence of right-winger Bukayo Saka proved costly.

Xabi Alonso insisted Rodrygo remained an “important” player in his plans at Madrid following his appointment as Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement. He has been appearing for Los Blancos at the FIFA Club World Cup but hasn’t been a consistent starter, further adding to the speculation over a potential summer move.

The Brazil international has three years left on his contract, which is believed to be worth over £202,000 per week but is demanding over £250,000 should he move. He’s flourished since arriving at the Bernabeu in the summer of 2019 but the star power in Alonso’s side could see him arrive in the Premier League.

Romano explained Arsenal’s stance over a potential swoop for the attacker while speaking to GIVEMESPORT. He’s one of two wingers the Gunners admire:

“Rodrygo is kind of a dream target for Arsenal. I would say that at the beginning, it was also Nico Williams. Nico Williams and Rodrygo are considered the perfect winger for Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal project.”

The North Londoners look increasingly likely to miss out on Nico Williams amid Barcelona closing in on the Athletic Bilbao winger. They are looking at another attacker in Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.

Romano reports that contact has been made regarding the conditions of a deal for the England international. He could be one of several attacking arrivals amid a possible pursuit of Rodrygo, although they’ll likely first want to get a new number nine through the door.

Either RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko or Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres are expected to be that signing, although it’s unclear which of the frontmen is being prioritised.

Arteta and new director Andrea Berta are also making significant changes in midfield, with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi set to arrive alongside Brentford’s Christian Norgaard.
