Kicker currently posits the notion that Stuttgart and Bayern Munich might be considering a swap deal involving Nick Woltemade and Paul Wanner. Speculative as this may be, such an arrangement would help the two Bundesliga clubs potentially find middle ground in their attempts to complete the blockbuster transfer.
Stuttgart’s interest in obtaining Wanner on loan next season is well known. In principle, should the Swabians wish to acquire Wanner permanently, the numbers work. Despite a disappointing season on loan at FC Heidenheim, Wanner maintains an estimated market value of €18m.
Bayern could sell Wanner to the Württembergers, in the process bridging the current €30m gap in Stuttgart’s asking price somewhat. Kicker also notes that Werder Bremen are interested in acquiring Wanner on loan.
A move to Bremen might appeal to Wanner as he will receive the chance to be re-united with former SV Elversberg mentor Horst Steffen. The prospect of a swap deal between VfB and the FCH nevertheless likely diminishes the prospect of such a deal.
Wanner would clearly prefer to play for a Champions League side. Wanner could also serve as Woltemade’s direct replacement in the ten slot, meaning that he could earn regular playing time under head coach Sebastian Hoeneß.
