Euro Club Chief Personally Wants to Sign ‘World-Class’ Liverpool Ace, Talks Held

Bayern Munich are once again looking at a deal to sign Liverpool star Cody Gakpo this summer, according to reliable journalist Christian Falk.

The Reds are expecting a busy summer transfer window after winning the Premier League, with Arne Slot already adding Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez to the first-team squad for the upcoming season.

The deal to bring in Wirtz saw them beat the Bundesliga champions to his signature in a club-record deal, and that has left Bayern looking for alternatives which now include Gakpo.

Gakpo, who has been described as ‘world-class’, was a key member of Slot’s side last season as he scored 18 goals and registered seven assists in all competitions for the Anfield club.

But it’s believed that the club could be open to his departure this summer as they look to freshen things up, and Bayern are keen to add to their wide options after Leroy Sane’s departure to Galatasaray at the end of his contract.

Bayern held talks with Gakpo’s agents earlier in the window and while nothing progressed at the time, they are now ready to take another look at a deal after looking around the market for potential alternatives.

“Max Eberl should already be looking for alternative candidates for the wing. Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, for example, could be back on the radar. The player is said to be a personal favourite of Eberl.

“After initial talks with the Gakpo side, there has been no contact with the agents recently. That could now quickly change again.”

Vincent Kompany had been keen to add one of Nico Williams or Jamie Bynoe-Gittens to the squad but they have both opted to go elsewhere as their priority, which has seen the German side turn their attention back to Gakpo.

While no fresh talks have been held yet, Falk reports that could ‘change quickly’ as they look to prioritise a new attacker signing for after the Club World Cup, and Gakpo is now among the names at the top of the list.
