Joan Laporta sends public ‘thank you’ message to Barcelona chief Deco

Barcelona president Joan Laporta this week moved to make clear his appreciation for the ongoing squad building efforts of club sporting director, Deco.

This, of course, comes fresh off a spectacular season for the Blaugrana in 2024/25.

Under the watch of new head coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona enjoyed a bounce-back term last time out, racking up a domestic treble, as well as coming within a whisker of a Champions League final berth.

Much of the credit for this success was afforded to manager Flick, who quickly set about instilling a new set of principles and values in Barca’s squad.

But who was the man responsible for hiring the German tactician?

In a previous discussion with RAC1 back in April, Joan Laporta revealed that Deco made the final call to bring Flick to the Camp Nou.

And as alluded to above, this week, Deco has come in for yet more praise on the part of the leading figure in the Barcelona boardroom.

On this occasion, the sporting director’s endeavours on the transfer front were behind as much, with Laporta having explained during an appearance on ‘La Llotja del 125’ podcast:

“I want to thank Deco for building a competitive team.”
