Derby County and Ipswich Town are among the clubs working on a deal to sign U.S. national team forward Patrick Agyemang from Charlotte FC, sources tell GIVEMESPORT.
There is no agreement on a transfer fee with Charlotte, sources say. Fabrizio Romano first reported Derby’s interest. There is no agreement between Agyemang and Derby on a contract either. Other clubs, including Belgian side Genk, are interested in a deal as well.
Charlotte previously rejected a bid from Luton Town this winter, wanting to keep Agyemang at least until the summer. Now, more clubs are pushing this summer. Charlotte still don’t feel pressure to sell, sources add.
Ipswich were in the Premier League last season and transferred star forward Liam Delap to Chelsea. Derby County finished 19th in the Championship last season.
Agyemang, 24, has eight goals and two assists with Charlotte in 1,362 minutes across all competitions this season. He is currently with the USMNT at the Gold Cup, where he’s been the first choice forward.
Charlotte FC has an open DP spot and is a team to watch this summer to bring in a big attacking reinforcement with Agyemang departing. The summer transfer window in MLS opens on July 24. In the interim, Israeli international Idan Toklomati is likely to get most of the starts.
