Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has stated that he wishes to stay at Barcelona amid links of a move to Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Dutchman is a transfer target at Old Trafford as United seek to bolster their ranks in the middle of the park ahead of the 2022-23 season.
Despite the opportunity to reunite with his former boss, de Jong has revealed that he would like to remain at Camp Nou.
“I prefer to stay with Barcelona – Barcelona is just my dream club,” the 25-year-old was quoted saying by ESPN.
I’ve never regretted my choice despite the fact that I had hoped for more in terms of prizes than I’ve achieved so far but I have never regretted my choice.”
De Jong also denied reports of any agreement with the Red Devils as it stands.
“What I’m saying, there is absolutely nothing of an agreement or anything official,” he added.
“At the moment there is no question of it at all. Not that I know of in any case or they must not have told me, but I don’t think so.”
Meanwhile, Xavi Hernandez has lauded De Jong as the “present and the future” and wants to see him remain with the Blaugrana.
“There aren’t many players with his quality in the world – He’s the present and the future at Barca,” Xavi told Spanish outlet SPORT.
“He is a very important player for me. He’s capable and strong, he gets into the box.
“He has had some excellent games, but he has to be consistent.”
As rightly pointed out by his manager, de Jong was largely inconsistent during the just-concluded campaign but his quality remains undeniable.
A reunion with his Erik ten Hag at the Theatre of Dreams could help get the ex-Ajax man back on track off the back of what has been an underwhelming campaign.
