Jose Mourinho has seen and done just about everything that football has to offer. He’s managed some of the biggest teams in the world, such as Real Madrid and Manchester United. He’s won countless trophies and is considered one of the best head coaches to ever work in the beautiful game. What makes him so special, though, is the relationships that he manages to build within almost every team he takes charge of.
The Special One has a way of galvanising his players and fanbases unlike anyone else has ever been able to. He’s been beloved everywhere he’s gone and he’s been just about everywhere. Starting off in his native Portugal, Mourinho initially made a name for himself managing Braga and then FC Porto. He did the unthinkable with the latter, leading them to a Champions League trophy in 2004. It wasn’t long after that he was snapped up by Chelsea, who were taking their first footsteps into becoming a major football powerhouse. He helped transform them into such, with back-to-back Premier League titles in his first two seasons in England.

The legendary pair share an interesting relationship.
After his spell at Stamford Bridge, he moved on to manage the likes of Inter Milan, Madrid and United. He’s seen everything football has to offer and has been in some of the most vibrant stadiums and witnessed the most electrifying atmospheres across the world. Mourinho even named the best atmosphere in football and he picked one of his former sides.
The Special One spent three years in charge of the Italian club
After his time with Tottenham Hotspur came to an end in 2021, AS Roma took a chance on the coach and he was hired by the Italians just a month later. The Special One went on to spend three years in charge of Roma, guiding them to a Europa Conference League trophy during that time. He was dismissed in 2024, but had an incredible time with the Serie A side. He won 68 of his 138 games in charge of the side and, in an interview with TNT Sports, he revealed that he thought the club has the best atmosphere in football.
When asked to name the fans with the best atmosphere, he said:
“I’ve been lucky. Very, very lucky. Old Trafford was Old Trafford. Bernabeu was Bernabeu. San Siro was San Siro. Stamford Bridge was Stamford Bridge. I’ve been very, very lucky, but I would say that for a team not used to winning, Roma fans are so, so loyal to the team.”
The answer will surprise many, with most fans assuming someone like the Red Devils or Los Blancos would have the best atmosphere in the world. Mourinho is a man known for speaking his truth, though. With the coach now in charge of Fenerbahce, he might change his tune in the future as the Turkish side are known for their intense and intimidating atmosphere.
